This fairly rare camera (approximately 5000 were produced) was manufactured by OPL beginning in 1945. It is a 35 mm rangefinder camera with interchangeable lenses. According to B. Vial, the 50mm lens was announced by OPL as being detachable, and not interchangeable, since no other lens was foreseen. The ability to detach the lens would satisfy those who wanted to use the lens on an enlarger. This lens is marked "FOCA 1:3,5 f=5cm.". The f-stop selector is located on the front extremity of the lens.
Since I have been requested frequently to explain how to dismount the lens, I shall explain it here. Adjust the lens focus to the closest point, i.e. 1 meter. When the lens is set to infinity, the focusing ring is locked. In order to unlock it, it is necessary to push on the large button at the base of the lens, up and to the left. It is this large button that allows one to turn the lens. Set at 1 meter, it is necessary to grip the lens by the knurled ring at the end of the lens with the left hand, while holding the body with the right hand. Forcing slightly, continue to turn the lens. When the resistance point is passed, unscrew gently. The ring at the base of the lens comes off with the lens, while the focusing scale remains on the body. To remount, reverse this procedure, beginning GENTLY. The mount is strong, but it would be a shame to damage the threads of the lens flange by being impatient.
The rangefinder is coupled to the lens.
To load the film, the back and base of the camera body can be completely removed. Inside, on the internal wall of the back is a film pressure-plate, but in addition, this is held in position by a film pressure strip. The film winding knob is large. The speeds engraved on it go from 1/20 sec to 1/500 sec. On the front, a small selector switch (marked A and R) allows the unlocking of the film advance mechanism so as to permit film rewinding (the R position). There is no flash synchronization.
The Foca Two Star production began with serial number 10000. This example has the serial number 10338. The serial number is found in the film take-up reel cavity.
The Two Star was only produced during a few months, and the PF2bis replaced it.
