Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon
The Onito joined the Zeiss Ikon lineup at the merger of Contessa Nettel. Some copies like this one, probably the firsts to change brand, still have the Contessa Nettel marking between the two metal knobs used to pull the trolley.
This quite rustic plate camera exists in several sizes. The body is usually made of wood, covered with leatherette. The folding baseboard is made of metal with an enamelled inner face. Focusing is done by means of a radial lever moving along a distance scale. The lenses and shutters of the Onito are rather low-end. There is no lens shift, there is only one viewfinder (brilliant finder). There are many lens / shutter combinations. The version with Citonar lens existed from 1926 to 1928.
From 1930, the Onitos became the Taxos.
