Chronology of cameras Canon
The Datematic is a rangefinder camera with an integrated photo dating system, meaning that a predetermined date set on the camerawill automatically imprint onto the negative. Certainly, it's a far cry from current systems that include electronic calendars and handle date updates, including time zone considerations, etc. Here, the date must be manually updated, but for its time, it was innovative. However, one cannot help but think that Kodak's autographic system allowed for a similar result 60 years earlier. Date adjustment is done by turning three dials located under the lens, one for the day, one for the month, and the other for the year. The adjustment result is visible above the lens, allowing the operator to adjust it while wearing the camera around their neck. The date follows the American format.
The lens is a 40/2.8. Exposure is entirely controlled by a cell.
It's possible that manufacturing was subcontracted to Premier.
