Chronology of cameras Rollei

The Rolleicord II is the evolution of the concepts put in place by Franke & Heidecke on the Rolleicord I models. The film transport became extended and included the automatic stop at each frame, thus no longer requiring the red window at the back. But the major characteristic of the Rolleicord II was the return to eye-level reflex finder and abandoning the direct (sports) vision of the Rolleicord I. It has the typical reflex hood with no direct vision, where the front panel does not open, and instead, and as in other previous models of Rolleicord II has a lateral button to raise a mirror. This later lead to the release of a Rolleicord f4,5 with sports finder, the Rolleicord Ia. Because most of the Rolleicord series has 3,5 lenses and the Ia has 4,5 lenses, made most to consider this Rolleicord II as the first type of the Rolleicord Ia. But structurally is a Rolleicord II and as such should be considered. See the comprehensive work of John Phillips (The classic Rollei: a definitive guide) for details.

Around 9500 of these cameras were produced during 1936 and 1937. There are no camera serial numbers, and the approximate lens serials are in the range 1,758,000-1,974,000.

The Compur C00 shutter is unhoused and has maximum speed of 1/300 and the old scale. The lens is a Carl Zeiss Jena Triotar 75mm f4.5. The logo of F&H is always present on the hood, which disappears in later types.
