Chronology of cameras Ricoh
Cet appareil bifocal fut présenté lors de la PMA 87 en compagnie du Ricoh FF-90. A cette époque, les compacts à zoom ne font qu'apparaître sur le marché, et la solution du bifocal est quasiment la seule alternative aux compacts à focale fixe.
Dans sa catégorie, le TF-900 est bien considéré, malgré une baisse de qualité en position télé.
Le changement de focale est électrique. Lors du passage de 70 à 35 mm, la moitié des éléments optiques de l'objectif bascule dans le fond de l'appareil.
Il est possible de photographier en rafale à raison d'une image par seconde. Le retardateur permet de programmer deux déclenchements consécutifs.
