Chronology of cameras LaBelle Industries
LaBelle Industries is a small company based in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin.
An advertisement from 1953 displayed a camera with specifications identical to the Pal, but it was labeled as the Bolsey A on the front. However, it seems that the Bolsey A was never actually manufactured. LaBelle acquired the rights to it from Bolsey. Therefore, the Pal could be considered a resurrection of the Bolsey A. Another LaBelle model called the Wescon, which was quite different and inspired by the Clarus, was planned but never went into production.
In English, "Pal" means friend or companion.
An metal index, clearly visible in the photo of the camera, appears in the viewfinder to indicate that the shot has been taken and retracts once the shutter is cocked using the film advance wheel. On the bottom, next to the tripod socket, there appears to be a flash sync connection (?). With the camera open, two cables can be seen leading to the shutter.
The design is intended for quick and easy handling. All the settings are labeled in plain words on the lens ring: "Portrait," "Group," and "Distance" for focusing, "Slow" and "Fast" for shutter speeds, "Bright" and "Dull" for apertures. All you need to do is align the marks; no advanced technique is required.
