Chronology of cameras Chinon
Perhaps running out of ideas, Chinon adopted a new naming convention for its models starting in 1986. These are now called "Auto," followed by a number ending in 1.
All of these are motorized compact cameras with autofocus and flash. They differ in their lenses and the presence of an automatic framing system.
The first models in this new series still have a design very similar to the last Chinon 35 models, with angular shapes and a flash dependent on the protection cover. The subsequent models become more rounded, following the trend of the time.

In 1987, the Chinon Auto 3001 introduced a significant advancement in autofocus technology. It emits three infrared beams: one central and two on the sides of the photo, thereby covering the most common framing areas. Previously, the single central beam did not allow for off-center framing and often caused the background to be in focus while the main subject, slightly off-center, appeared blurred. With this new multi-beam system, the focus is on the nearest subject. This system can be disabled, and a Spot function allows for activating only the central beam.
