Chronology of cameras Ricoh
The Ricoh Auto-Half E is an evolution of the Auto-Half.
The shutter release is now on the top, but the camera still lacks an accessory shoe, which needs to be purchased separately; this issue was resolved with the E2 model. There is a coaxial socket on the side for connecting a standard or dedicated flash, whether it uses bulbs or electronic technology. The maximum sensitivity has been increased from 200 to 400 ISO. The back is now hinged. In fact, these modifications were already present on the Auto-Half S, which was released the previous year.
The operation is the same as its predecessor: the camera automatically sets the aperture based on the brightness, using a fixed shutter speed of 1/125 s. Due to the fixed focus, there is no focus adjustment available. In automatic mode, as long as you see a yellow dot in the center of the viewfinder, it means the exposure is correct. If it turns red, you need to use the flash; otherwise, the shot will be underexposed. When you switch from the A (Automatic) position and select the aperture using the only available adjustment on the top of the camera, the shutter speed changes to 1/30 for flash photography.
The frame size is not exactly 18 x 24 mm but rather 17 x 24 mm. This one-millimeter reduction in width likely allows for a true 72 exposures on a 36-exposure 135 film.
The Auto-Half E is available with black engraving and decoration, as well as various decorations, some of which are inspired by the works of the artist Vasarely.
The Auto Half E was released in November 1966 and was in production for about a decade. Its successor, the E2, was only introduced in November 1976.
It was also distributed by the Standard Projector & Equipment Co Inc under the name Gatling 72.
Cette version du Ricoh Auto Half E présente une décoration daux motifs géométriques jaunes.
