Ernemann Heag XIV
Ernemann Heag XIV Zweiverschluss 9 x 12

The Ernemann Heag XIV has the uncommon design of a folding plate camera with rounded edges. It is a double shutter camera (Zweiverschluss) with a focal plane plus a central shutter. The quality is high as most of the cameras produced in Ernemann-Werke Dresden factory. This model was produced between 1908 and circa 1922, and is designed for 9 x 12 cm plates.

This particular camera is certainly one of the last ones made, due the combination of characteristics, and its specific features are not referred in McKeown’s guide or Göllner’s book, namely the black painted lens standard. It has a brilliant finder with bubble level on the left side of the lens standard, and one typical Ernemann folding Newton finder with double cover. The camera has double extension with black leather bellows and frontal rack advance.

The focal plane shutter has separate controls for slit width (2.5 to 50 mm) and spring tension, delivering speeds between 1/50 and 1/1000. A table with speeds is located at the side opposite to the shutter. The central shutter is a F. Deckel compound Compur with speeds from 1 to 1/200 seconds and Z (T) and D (B).

The lens is a Steinheil Munchen Doppelanastigmat Unofokal of 13.5 of focal length and maximum aperture of 4.5. The lens standard has horizontal and vertical movements for perspective correction.

It is a very solid, relatively heavy and reliable camera.
