Chronology of cameras Ernemann
The Ernemann Velo-Klapp was the low cost version of the higher quality Klapp cameras, and was produced between 1901 and 1920 only for 9 x 12 cm plates. This camera is from the version produced between 1913 and 1916, easily identifiable by the shutter type, the maximum speed of 1/2500 seconds and the lens. The wooden camera is covered with grainy black leather and has a folding Newton finder at the top.
The shutter is a Ernemann focal plane with separate external controls for slit width (observed internally of externally on the left side of the camera) and spring tension, delivering speeds in the range 1/50 to 1/2500 and T. The release has a lock to prevent accidental exposure, and a table of speeds is present at the top. The lens is a Ernemann Detectiv-Aplanat No. 1 with maximum aperture of 6.8. Focusing is frontal at the lens barrel. The front standard has horizontal and vertical movements for perspective correction.
