Chronology of cameras Canon
The Super Zoom S1 to SX 70 cameras are characterized by zooms with a very wide range of focal lengths. Fortunately, they are stabilized. The other models whose names start with SX are less bulky. The evolution of this series was constant and regular, with a new model every year. Some developments, such as the longest focal length, seem to be more of a marketing gimmick than a response to a need. IS means that the lens is stabilized. HS corresponds to a noise reduction system appearing with the DIGIC 5 processor. HS cameras are also stabilized.

(table from Wikipedia) __________
Canon with its SX30 IS breaks a record, proving that size does matter. Its 35x zoom corresponds to a 24-840mm range, with a maximum aperture ranging from f/2.7 to f/5.8, depending on the focal length. Sure, it's impressive, but what's the point? Who really needs an 840mm on a bridge camera?
