Ricoh a pour plusieurs de ses modèles utilisé comme argument premier leur rapidité à démarrer, puis à prendre une photo ; ceci répondant à la plainte la plus courante des utilisateurs des premiers appareils numériques. Le Caplio G4 démarre en 1,9 s et le temps de réponse est réduit à 0,14 s, d'après Ricoh.
Un autre argument pour ce modèle est la possibilité de prendre des photos à 1 cm du sujet.
Le G4 a un zoom dont la focale la plus courte correspond à 35 mm, mais le G4 wide commence à 28 mm.
