Chronology of cameras Lumiere

Designed by Pontiac, born as a  Lumière ...

Pontiac had planned to make a camera using 70 mm film, the "Versailles". It was an impressive device with interchangeable lenses, coupled rangefinder, shutter, synchronized to 1/2000, along with various accessories.
But the Pontiac business, plagued by serious financial difficulties, was unable to accomplish this project. The moulds are already manufactured, they were bought by the Lumière Company, which from these moulds created two 6 x 6 cm bodies. The dual format Lumiclub 6 x 6 and the Lumière 6 x 6, an horizontal folding.

The body is big and heavy. Perhaps to reduce its size, the lens is mounted on a retractable tube.
The cocking lever fits snugly in the housing. At the top of the apparatus, there is a cover. This cover mask of a light meter Lumipose type (see the operating mode at the Lumiflex page) and a viewfinder. This viewfinder uses a mirror. There is a second viewfinder that is direct. Between the two front windows of the sights that gives to the unit an air of rangefinder, is the entrance of light for lumipose. The cover has on its inner face the exposure directions relative to the letters of Lumipose.

If the camera has a modern aspect (for the time), it is, however, notihing else than an adaptation of the Lumière folding cameras. The speed adjustment and aperture settings are all around the lens. The shutter button is nevertheless on the body, but not necessarily where you would expect. It is at the base of the lens holder tube. This tube must be fully deployed to obtain correct picture.

The lens is a SOM-Berthiot 3.5 / 75. The shutter reaches 1 / 300th of a second.
