Zeiss Ikon Contax I

The Contax I was, in 1932, the answer of Zeiss Ikon, to the Leica of Leitz. It is a top-of-the-range camera, very quite manufactured, robus, of high degree of accuracy. Its longevity was exceptional, since it was manufactured until in the Sixties. Russian, with Kiev, enriched even the family, more durably.

It is about a rangefinder camera coupled with the focusing, but separated of the viewfinder, with very wide basis, interchangeable lenses (mounted on bayonet). It is equipped with a metallic focal plane shutter allowing speeds from 1/25 to 1/1000 second.

It is entirely black, sheathed of leather. The metallic parts are enamelled.

In the years which followed the launching of the Contax I, Leica and Zeiss rushed themselves in a true competition to improve continually their top-of-the-range cameras.

The Contax I is recognized easily by its button of cocking located in fronting.
