Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon

The Contax I was, in 1932, the answer of Zeiss Ikon to the Leica of Leitz. It is a top-of-the-range camera, very well manufactured, robust and of great precision. Its longevity has been exceptional, since it was manufactured until the sixties. The Russians, with the Kiev, even enriched the family more durably.

This is a rangefinder camera with a very wide base, the rangefinder is coupled with focus but separated from the viewfinder. The lenses are interchangeable (bayonet mount). It is fitted with a metallic focal plane shutter with speed ranging from 1/25 to 1/1000 of a second.

It is entirely black, sheathed in leather. The metal parts are enamelled.

In the years following the Contax I release, Leica and Zeiss entered a real competition to continuously improve their top-of-the-range.
