Chronology of cameras Canon
The EOS system (Electro-Optical System) represents a complete departure from previous Canon cameras, as everything changes, especially due to the lack of compatibility with FD lenses.
EOS cameras feature sophisticated electronics and excellent autofocus, made possible by the new range of EF lenses with integrated motors (USM). The coupling between the camera body and the lens is now purely electrical. Gone is the small cam that protruded from the rear of FD lenses.
The overall design is new, although it retains some small reminiscences of the T90, designed by Colani.

The name EOS has been retained to designate the digital SLR cameras of the brand.__________
Released in 1996, the EOS 500N is to the 500 what the 1000N was to the 1000: an upgraded replacement. Externally, it distinguishes itself from its predecessor with a more rounded body and the adoption of a two-tone color scheme, similar to the EOS 50.
As the EOS 500 had been a huge success, it required more than just aesthetic changes. Hence, many aspects of this camera's functionality were reviewed. Autofocus now operates with three collimators (selectable individually) coupled with exposure metering. There's an automatic bracketing function. The flash sync speed is at 1/90, or even 1/200 with Speedlite 380 EX and 220 EX flashes. There's also a slow-sync mode.
It possesses most of the priority and automation functions existing at that time.
However, there are some weaknesses to note:
- Autofocus can be hesitant, especially in low light.
- The plastic covering the body is quite susceptible to impacts (my built-in flash suffered from this).
- The relatively high battery consumption (CR123A) (auto mode, autofocus, and flash) necessitates carrying spare batteries at all times.
Its very simple fully automatic mode allows beginners to have their first experience with an SLR, progressing quite easily and, why not, daring to disengage autofocus or the auto mode and venture into the adventure.
The timer, for once (on a camera with a lot of electronics), is user-friendly with clearly visible timing.
Another feature found on some EOS cameras since the beginning of the series: the camera winds the entire film when inserted, and rewinds it as shots are taken, thereby preventing total loss if the camera is inadvertently opened.
In 1996, it was sold in a kit with a 24-85 mm USM zoom for 5000 francs, or with a 28-80 mm zoom for 3000 francs.
