This model doesn't have the standard prism.
It was replaced by an accessory that combines a prism and a CDS cell. Contrary to the body, made in East-Germany, this "Travemat" was build in Ulm, West-Germany (manufacturer: Schacht). This accessory was never sold in the Eastern Bloc, but was sometimes sold together with the body when sold in western countries. This commercial agreement between two brands separated by the Iron Curtain was a way for Ihagee to cope with its Japanese competitors, who were starting to include TTL (through-the-lens) metering to their SLRs.

The Exakta range lasted of the late 1930's until the 1970's. These were single-lens reflex cameras with interchangeable lenses. The system of accessories surrounding the bodies range was particularly wide, making the happiness of requiring photographers.
