Chronology of cameras Canon
Starting from the late 1950s, Canon expanded its range of rangefinder cameras by manufacturing a new type of camera, the single-lens reflex (SLR), which had previously been overlooked by the brand. Demand grew worldwide, whether from professionals or amateurs. However, Canon had to produce multiple models before offering one that could compete with the leading professional market model, the Nikon F.

__________Starting in 1973, Canon made a few modifications to its 1971 FTb model. Externally, the self-timer lever is different, the end of the winding lever is covered in plastic, and a small rotating cover hides the flash sync socket.
More importantly, the selected shutter speed is displayed in the viewfinder. While not very visible, as it is a small section of a transparent disc that appears at the bottom left, it is still very useful.
Since the FTb is a semi-automatic camera, the "A" position on the FD lens cannot be used. The FTb allows for full aperture metering. Below the self-timer lever, there is a position that can be engaged for stopped-down metering with non-FD lenses.
