Chronology of cameras Zeiss Ikon

This atypical TLR reflex camera with a 24 x 36 mm format is a Zeiss Ikon creation dated 1935. It caused a sensation on the market with its uncoupled photocell. Considered rare, despite its prohibitive price, from 6000 to 7000 copies were sold.
The price of the basic Contaflex (with the Tessar 2.8) represented 70 Erabox or 2 Contax I, which meant approximately 7 times the average salary in 1936 in France!
For the one with the Sonnar 1.5, 100 Erabox or 3 Contax I which was about ten times the average salary in 1936 in France!

Hereafter is what Bernard Vial said in his book "1930 1940 l'âge d'or des appareils allemands":
"The Contaflex caused a sensation on the photographic market in 1935 when it was launched. It had to combine the advantages of the small format and those of the twin lens reflex in a single camera. In a way, to put in its favor, the supporters of the Leica and those of the Rolleiflex, the two great rivals of Zeiss Ikon ... "

It is a reflex with two interchangeable coupled lenses. The viewing lens is a 2.8 - 80 mm fixed, providing, on a frosted plano-convex lens, an image of 4.5 x 6 cm format. The front wall of the cap is a semi-transparent Albada type viewer intended to facilitate sighting at eye level, especially in the vertical position. Photoelectric cell of the same type as that of the Contax III.
Vertical scrolling metal curtain shutter, scaled from 1/2 second to 1000th and delay device.
Normal lenses are the Tessar 2.8, Sonnar 2 or 1.5 / 50mm.
The complementary coupled lenses are a 2.8 / 35mm Biogon, the 85mm and 135mm Sonnar. The image fields of these two focal lengths are engraved on the ground glass.

Stopped in 1940, the manufacture of the Contaflex was never resumed in this form.
