Alors qu'existaient conjointement les formats 116 (1899) et 120 (1901) ou 616 et 620 (à partir de 1931), Kodak avait l'habitude de fabriquer ses modèles dans les deux formats. Le Brownie Special n'échappe pas à la règle et existe en 6 x 9 (format 620 / Six-20) ou 6,5 x 11 (format 616 / Six-16). A part une différence d'échelle, les deux appareils sont semblables.
