Polaroid 636 Talking camera

Traduction de Sylvain Halgand

The 636 Talking Camera goes back to 1995. It is about an optical and mechanical point of view of a very usual film 600 Polaroid. What changes, it is the addition of a “speaking” function. It emits recorded sounds at the time of release, with an aim of making smile “photographed”. Its memory contains three preregistered messages (3,5 seconds), but it is possible to personalize one of these messages by being recorded oneself (8 seconds), thanks to a microchip “ChipCorder ™” which ensures the recording, the storage and the restitution of a sound.
Energy to provide the functions of the sound is that of the battery of film and not of the flash. A camera without film cannot “speak”. The abuse sound is dangeurous for the health of film, because in the event of unloading of this battery, the film is not more extracted from its cartridge. In this case, it is necessary to change film.

This camera starts to appear on the secondhand trades of village. The absence of film generally noted on the cameras thus sold, makes impossible the checking of the function “Talking Camera”. This uncertainty makes that such a camera must be bought at low prices.

In 1997, it was worth 299 francs.
