Chronology of cameras Certo
Initially called Certofix, then Certotix, the Certix cameras adopted their name starting from 1931. They are high-quality folding cameras. They are described as automatic, meaning that opening the bellows automatically sets up the lens, ready for the first photo. The Certix cameras offer multi-format capabilities on the same type of film. This holds true for almost all models, except for the entry-level ones, which are limited to a single negative format: 6 x 9 on 120 film. The others offer two or even three formats (6 x 9, 6 x 4.5, 6 x 6), which sometimes makes the viewfinder and the back a bit complicated with multiple windows (Advertisement from 1935).
The Certix was a big success for Certo, and there are numerous variations with different combinations of lens and shutter. The Certix also evolved over its existence, with changes in the position of the viewfinder, the material of the covering, etc. Additionally, Certix cameras are found under distributor brands as well.
__________The Central Camera Co. catalog from Chicago still features the Certotix in 1936, even though this model had a very brief career in 1931, quickly renamed as Certix. The engraving used appears to depict a Certonet, recognizable by the shape of its stand. In short, there seems to be a lack of precision at Central Camera Co.
