Chronology of cameras Phenix
The Phenix DC 303 is a Yashica / Contax mount SLR camera with manual exposure control.
In addition to long time exposure B, the shutter speed ranges from 1 second to 1/2000.
The viewfinder is uncluttered, the information being limited to 3 diodes (correct exposure, over and under exposure).
Focusing is manual with a split-image range finder (horizontal line) surrounded by a microprism doughnut.
The relationship with the Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 is obvious (*) even if some differences exist if we refer to the Yashica user manual:
- A supplementary contact in addition to the central contact on the Yashica hot shoe.
- A flash availability indicator in the viewfinder of the Yashica, nonexistent on the Phenix.
The camera is accompanied here by a Yashica 50mm f1:1.9 ML as is the Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 in its user manual.
Two different fonts exists for the "DC 303" inscription : either as in the above photo or like that of these Phenix DC 303K Data and Phenix DC 303K .
The Phenix DC 303 has also been marketed by Braun under the reference "Braun SR2000 Y" and by Kenko under the reference "Kenko KF-3YC".
(*) Jiangxi Optical Instrument General Factory started by producing the Yashica FX-3 Super 2000 in the mid-80s before imitating it and launching its first SLR under its own brand in 1988 : the Phenix DC 303. Phenix SLR cameras saga and their versions under different brands had started!
