The Canon EOS 700, or the double-faced camera.

This camera, released in 1990, is the successor to the EOS 750, retaining the general design and integrated flash.

While the EOS 750 only offered Program mode, the 700 also provides result modes and a Shutter Priority automation. A unique feature of this model is the method of switching to the latter mode. Instead of various dials or multifunction menus, you switch from "basic" to "expert" mode by ... turning the dial. More precisely, you need to unscrew the center of the dial, let the printed ring fall into your hand by turning the camera over, and then place it back in the opposite direction. The result modes then give way to shutter speeds. The Program mode remains available.

How does the camera know the position of the ring? The thickness of the shoulder that acts as a stop for the screw is different on each side, causing the screw to press or not press a contact at the bottom of its well.

Regardless of the operating mode, you will never know the aperture you are using. The viewfinder indicators are limited to two: AE in steady green indicates correct exposure, and a steady green dot indicates that focus is achieved on the autofocus point, confirmed by a faint beep.

Although pressing the shutter button halfway locks exposure and focus, the "result modes" side of the dial also allows more permanent focus distance memorization. In the "big dot" position, you achieve focus by pressing the shutter button halfway; you can then release the button and switch to the "double triangle" position to lock the focus.

The flash has two modes: off or auto.

Another unique feature is the kit zoom lens. This motorized zoom lacks any manual ring, and the only adjustment is the electric zoom, accessible via two buttons on the left side. This Power Zoom EF 35-80 4-5.6 was apparently only available as a kit with this camera (3700 francs in 1990).
